Institution of Civil Engineers – ICEFLOE
Do you want
to make a difference? Would you like the chance to change your world?
It’s easy to say you want to change the world but did you know
that some people work towards changing the world everyday and they
get paid to do it!
Have
you ever been on the London Eye, or seen the Gateshead Millennium Bridge,
or the Eden Project? What did you think? Did you know that civil engineers
built all of these? But we don’t only work on big projects like
these; there are small ones too. Civil engineers help to improve your
streets, are involved in building wind farms to provide an alternative
to nuclear energy; we have been involved in the debate around cars versus
public transport; and every year civil engineers work abroad in places
like Africa after earthquakes and other disasters in relief teams to provide
clean water and build new homes. In fact without civil engineering there
wouldn’t be bridges, railway tracks, motorways – even football
stadiums! And who knows how many things there are still to discover
that might make our lives better.
We
want to change our world and we want you to help us! If this is the kind
of world you’d like to get involved in why don’t you ask
your teacher/parent to call 020 7665 2152 now and we can arrange for
you to speak to someone who has worked on some of these exciting projects.
