Worshipful Company of Engineers

Formed in June 1983 the Worshipful Company of Engineers’ main objective is to ‘afford the means of professional and social intercourse and mutual information between its members, those who practise engineering and those who benefit there from, so as to promote the development and advancement of the science, art and practice of engineering in the City of London and elsewhere’.

The Worshipful Company has some 300 members, including many women despite being called ‘Liverymen’.  Along with Liverymen from other worshipful companies they play a key role in the civic structure of the capital.  They are responsible for the election of the Sheriffs of the City and the Lord Mayor of London

Through its charitable Trust fund, the Company gives awards and Prizes to encourage excellence amongst qualified engineers and those training to be Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians. The awards are normally based upon nominations or recommendations received from third parties-direct applications are not accepted. 

The Company’s awards include the ‘Young Consulting Engineers Award’, an annual award given to professional engineers under 30 employed by a member of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering, the ‘Cadzow Smith Award’ which is an award for excellence achieved on an accredited undergraduate engineering course at one of the 11 universities within London and the Home Counties and Service Awards given annually to Officers and NCOs of the Royal Navy, Royal Engineers, Royal Corps of Signals, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Air Force for outstanding achievement.
