The Durkan Group

The Durkan Group is a construction, investment, housing, interiors and property company which was founded in l963 by the present chairman William Durkan.

Since its formation, the Group has expanded strategically to meet market demands and now has a turnover approaching £130million from activities centered in London, the South-East of England and Ireland.  A demonstrably diverse base of skill, experience and enthusiasm means the Durkan Group is uniquely placed to satisfy the special needs of both public and private sector clients and to develop its own homes for sale.

Durkan is committed to playing a full and active role in training and recruitment and views it as an extremely important part of its contract with its clients.  In recognition of this, the Group has been involved in numerous recruitment, training and local labour initiatives and with providing construction industry careers advice to local schools and colleges. In addition Durkan is a founder member of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Construction Training Organisation and a founder member of the steering committee for Building Work for Women.

Through its leading role in BWW, Durkan has found work placements for a number of tradeswomen to gain practical experience on site and now directly employs women carpenters and painters and decorators who have completed their training.

In the UK, the Durkan Group now encompasses four member companies, each with specific areas of specialisation, all of which operate from a recently purchased 32,000 sq ft corporate headquarters building in the High Street, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.  In Dublin, Durkan New Homes Ireland is a leading provider of starter and family homes and continues to work with a growing voluntary housing sector in Ireland.
