CIC Membership

Organisations may be admitted into membership of the Council if they fulfill the requirements of one of three categories of membership:

Full Membership

Associate Membership

Affiliate Membership

Full Membership

By agreement of the Council, Full Members, who will be eligible for representation on Council, will be admitted to membership, provided that they are:

  • Professional Institutions, whose members are actively involved in planning, procuring, designing, constructing, regulating, maintaining or managing the built environment; either holding a Royal Charter or with independent status; and qualifying individuals in any of these various disciplines.   Associations representing individuals in senior managerial roles, whose members are predominantly already qualified members of professional bodies, will also be deemed to be eligible for membership;
  • Business Associations which represent professional and specialist services;
  • Research and/or Education organisations that serve the built environment, the construction industry and its clients;
  • Other Organisations that are primarily concerned with quality, regulation, registration and standards within the built environment.

As agreed by Council, each Full Member will have two seats on Council but each Professional Institution, holding a Royal Charter, will have up to three seats.

Associate Membership

Organisations within the construction industry which speak for a defined group - or groups - of members, but are not eligible for admission as a Full Member of Council, may be admitted as Associate Members.

Associate Members are entitled to attend CIC general meetings, seminars and conferences, and are invited to participate in and comment on the development of all aspects of the Council’s work and receive all information produced by CIC.

Affiliate Membership

Individuals or organisations within the construction industry, not eligible for admission as a full or associate member of CIC, may join as an affiliate member. Universities and colleges are also welcome to join as affiliates.

Affiliate Members of the Construction Industry Council are required to sign up to the Strategic Forum for Construction Commitments which bring together the six key areas vital to delivering construction projects on time, safely and to budget.

Affiliate members are not eligible for representation on Council or to nominate delegates for any Electoral Colleges but are entitled to attend the general meetings of the relevant national region.

Affiliate members also receive:

  • preferential rates on the use of the Design Quality Indicator (DQI);
  • liability Briefings and Alerts;
  • preferential rates on CIC conferences;
  • CIC Cascade e-newsletter.
