Structure
CIC and members work in the following ways:
Council
Members control the governance of CIC at the Annual General Meeting and three Council meetings each year, as well as more informally through the Annual “Awayday” get-together of Presidents, future Presidents and senior staff.
Meetings with the CIC Chief Executive
There are regular Chief Executive Meetings, during the year. In addition, the CIC Chief Executive will aim to hold at least one bi-lateral meeting per year with the Chief Executive of each member. Chief Executives of member bodies receive copies, for information, of all Executive Board papers together with regular briefing papers on key subjects which are issued to keep member CEOs updated with main topical issues.
Other meetings and events
In more general terms, CIC holds up to four policy seminars for members each year. These will be hosted by members in turn, or held at The Building Centre and will typically be from 3.30pm to 6.30pm followed by a networking session. Subjects discussed in 2009 were VAT policy, Low Carbon, How to Deal with the Recession and Buildings for Schools. Subjects for discussion in 2010 will include: National Policy of Statements, the General Election, Criticality, Diversity and Higher Education.
We will also hold up to four evening events in 2010 which will be more intimate gatherings of leading figures from our membership, with a guest speaker. The first event will be on 11 February with the Chief Construction Advisor as our guest. We will be happy to receive suggestions for guest speakers in 2010.
Communities of Knowledge
We host online collaborative Communities of Knowledge to discuss particular topics. Whilst these online Communities are still in their embryonic stage we hope they prove useful fora to bring together people with shared interests to develop ideas. We currently run the following Communities:
