Consultation on the revised Construction Design and Management Coordination (CDM) National Occupational Standards (NOS)

National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Construction Design and Management Coordination (CDM) have recently been updated in line with the recent changes to the regulations.

ConstructionSkills has recently undertaken a project to review and update as necessary the existing National Occupational Standards and NVQ/SVQ structure covering the former role of CDM Planning Supervisor. The work is being led by the Construction Industry Council in conjunction with key sector interests, on behalf of, and as a partner in, ConstructionSkills. 

The Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 now identifies the CDM Coordinator as a duty holder.  The Regulations are supported by the approved Code of Practice (Managing Health and Safety in Construction) and the industry guidance.  The industry guidance describes the role and functions of the CDM Coordinator role and applies across all four UK countries.

This suite of NOS has been developed by expert practitioners and is supported by the relevant professional institutions and employer bodes, in conjunction with the Sector Skills Council ConstructionSkills. 

We are now seeking confirmation from the sector that the revised standards meet industry needs.  We would like to have feedback from you if you are a CDM practitioner or have an interest in using the revised standards (notably candidates, employers, assessors and verifiers).

It would be much appreciated if you could review the new Standards.  We need specific feedback on the content of the NOS. Your feedback is needed and welcomed to confirm or suggest potential improvements to the units to make them more appropriate and usable.  If you are satisfied with the content of the units and have no need to answer in detail, please confirm this.

How do I review the NVQ/SVQ?

Review the full qualification or, if you are short of time, the introductory pages which give a list of the unit and element titles in the NOS.

Mark up the draft standards if appropriate with any suggested changes. Send this completed questionnaires and any ‘marked up’ pages by Monday 19th May to pbehal@cic.org.uk
