Built Environment Design Levels 3, 4 and 5
Why have these NVQ/SVQs reformed?
The opportunity has now been taken to review and consolidate a number of the original Levels 3, 4 and 5 Design–related NVQ/SVQs to take into account feedback from use of the existing qualifications, changing industry practice and legislation etc.. Additionally, the reformation has now been based on updated industry Occupational Standards that seek to enhance the format of presentation whilst complying with the changed requirements of the National Regulating Bodies.
Previously, separate qualifications existed at Level 4 in Civil & Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology and Building Engineering Services Engineering. At Level 5, qualifications existed for Architectural Practice and Conservation Consultancy. In order to develop more useful and viable qualifications, a single qualification at each level, based on a core and options model, has been developed to replace the existing qualifications. This builds on the pattern that had been established at Level 3 (which has also now been reviewed) where a single qualification for Technical Design for all disciplines in the built environment, had been developed.
The review is being conducted by the Construction Industry Council Occupational Standards Panel in conjunction with key sector and professional industry organisations, on behalf of, and as a partner in, the industry Sector Skills Council – ConstructionSkills.
CIC is conducting a consultation exercise with the help of those in the industry who have used the existing qualifications, or have an interest in using the proposed new qualification (notably candidates, employers, assessors and verifiers), to gather feedback about the Standards relevance and ability to meet industry changes and needs.
It would be much appreciated if you could review the new Occupational Standards and proposed qualification structures We need specific feedback on the content of the qualifications. You will need to refer to the details of the reformed NVQ/SVQs which are published with this document. Please read the introduction to the qualifications to see who the qualifications are currently designed to target.
Your feedback is needed and welcomed to confirm or suggest improvements that are needed to make the new qualifcations more appropriate and usable. If you are satisfied with the content of the units and have no need to answer in detail, please confirm this.
How do I review the NVQ/SVQs?
Please:
- Review the full qualification or, if you are short of time, the summary document which gives an introduction to the NVQs/SVQs, a list of the unit and element titles in the award;
- Complete either the full questionnaire or short questionnaire; and
- Mark up the draft standards if appropriate with any suggested changes.
