Lifelong Learning
CIC’s Lifelong Learning activity is overseen by a member Committee which brings together, and gives strategic focus to, all professional, managerial and technical lifelong learning activity across the built environment. The current Chair is Stan Hornagold. For further information please read the terms of reference.
The CIC Lifelong Learning remit includes coverage of careers and recruitment, schools, further and higher education, initial professional development, academic qualifications, training, continuing professional development, CSCS, Occupational Standards, and NVQ/SVQs.
Recently much of what the Committee has been concerned with is the implementation of the new Sector Skills Council for construction - ConstructionSkills.
ConstructionSkills became the Sector Skills Council for the construction industry in September 2003, and has a five-year licence to operate. It is a partnership between CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and CITB Northern Ireland (NI) and as such covers the whole industry from craft to the professions, the whole of the UK, and all of the skills issues that the industry faces. It also liaises closely with other built environment Sector Skills Councils in building services (SummitSkills) and property, housing etc. (AssestSkills) where CIC has important interests amongst its members.
