CIC Corporate Plan now available
CIC has produced a quick and easy to read version of its Corporate
Plan. This will govern CIC’s work and priorities from 2004
to 2006.
Graham
Watts, CIC’s Chief Executive said:
“This
three-year plan fully commits CIC to serve society, encourage unity
within the industry and add value and emphasis to the work of our
members. It seeks to support work which will enhance the value
of the built environment whilst respecting the natural environment,
improve the processes within the industry and respect the people
that work within it.
CIC
is an umbrella body of over 50 other organisations and working
with others to achieve these goals is essential in everything that
we do. We are therefore firmly committed to working with like-minded
bodies in the Strategic Forum for Construction and with the Sector
Skills Councils, particularly through our direct involvement in
ConstructionSkills, together with the many other stakeholders concerned
with achieving a better built environment.”
The Corporate
Plan can be downloaded from the CIC website or email Helen
Smith at CIC for a copy hsmith@cic.org.uk. Click

2. Built Environment Professional Skills Survey Launch
CIC is to publish the results of the Built Environment Professional Services
Skills Survey 2003/2004. This survey was undertaken nationally by CIC, in its
role as a partner in ConstructionSkills. The results raise issues relating
to the recruitment, skills and competence expectations of employers and whether
existing education, training providers and industry support is adequately addressing
the needs and gaps.
The
launch will take place on Thursday 22 April 2004 from 9am until
10am at the Building Centre, 26 Store Street, London, WC1E 7BT
The
event will present the key findings from the survey and highlight
the implications of these for the industry. This will be followed
by an informal Q&A session.
Speakers
will include Stuart Henderson, Deputy Chairman of CIC, Sheila Hoile
Director of Training Strategy for CITB-ConstructionSkills, and
Guy Hazelhurst from Davis Langdon Consultancy, who led the research
team.
Places
are strictly limited, however, if you are interested in attending
this launch event please contact Helen Smith, CIC’s Marketing
and Communications Manager at hsmith@cic.org.uk

Following the publication of the Innovation Report, DTI’s
Technology Programme website has gone live. The site provides
businesses, researchers, policy makers, the media and the public
with information about what the DTI is doing in support of new
technologies.
The
Technology Programme is just one of the ways in which the DTI is
supporting businesses with their research, development and innovation.
Announced in the recent Innovation Report the objectives of the
programme are to:
- Help
businesses exploit technologies by providing some of the funding,
and sharing some of the risk, in taking new and innovative technologies
to market.
- Develop
vibrant communities of interest around key emerging technologies
to support businesses in spotting technological opportunities
and threats, and meet potential collaborators.

Construction Books Site Revamp
Construction Books Direct (CBD), the official online bookshop of the Chartered
Institute of Building (CIOB), has launched its new design. The website redesign
includes an easy-to-use navigation system for straightforward access to a vast
range of books in over fifty categories. www.constructionbooksdirect.com
In 2000

in direct response to existing customers’ comments and needs.
Since then Construction Books Direct has become a major source
of construction related books and contracts for the construction
industry, universities and colleges throughout the world, with
hundreds of titles readily available to order online.
John
Douglas CIOB Director said “this new design and navigation
