For Education and Training Providers

National Occupational Standards (NOS) are “standards of competence” developed by industry, for industry.

There is a great deal of potential for Education and Training Providers, Further and Higher Education to benefit from making use of NOS and not just for delivering courses to help people gain an NVQ Diploma or SVQ.

NOS offer the opportunity for education and training providers to:

  • Map their current course provision against an industry approved benchmark of competence.
  • Develop new courses and curricula for Further and Higher education levels
  • Assess current course content in relation to emerging skills such as low carbon
  • Develop programmes which relate to employer needs
  • Use NOS to review current qualifications
