For Employers

National Occupational Standards (NOS) are “standards of competence” developed by industry, for industry. NOS can help you identify what best performance is when looking at job roles or activities.

NOS are a powerful benchmarking tool, which specify the knowledge and understanding needed to perform specific tasks and can therefore improve the productivity of your business by:

  • Supporting your transition to low carbon practice and operations
  • Assisting senior staff with people management and development
  • Assisting towards gaining Investors in People Status
  • Identifying emerging skills needs
  • Creating a competence based job description
  • Increased confidence in standards of work performance that will be achieved
  • Improving skill levels thereby delivering value for money
  • Assisting with the appropriate allocation of work

Employer Resources

The CIC Professional Services Skills Survey revealed that many employers face difficulties when recruiting appropriate staff. Use of the Occupational Standards can help in the recruitment process. They can be used as a benchmark when producing person specifications and assessing candidates.
