IIRSM Young Leaders Essay Competition 2021

Posted: 15th June 2021

IIRSM has launched the Young Leaders Essay Competition 2021, open to all members of the risk and safety profession aged 35 and under.

With a first prize value of £850 plus the winning essay published in award-shortlisted The Sentinel magazine, it’s a great opportunity to raise your profile and enhance your skills.

The coronavirus pandemic has seen the basic concept of risk and safety elevated as something we must take seriously to protect health and everything that depends upon it. It has impacted every corner of the world, government and inter-government organisations, the economy and workplace, communities and most importantly, individuals.

Essay title: Positioning the risk and safety profession in a post-COVID world

As we all adjust to the new normal, IIRSM is inviting young risk leaders to write about how risk and safety professionals can seize the opportunity to develop credibility and positioning as a critical and valued management function in the post-COVID world.

IIRSM CEO, Phillip Pearson, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for some of the newest members of our profession to demonstrate insight and thought leadership on one of the important questions of the day for safety and risk management. We’re really looking forward to seeing what they have to say.

The winner and runner-up receive a place on the three courses that make up IIRSM’s Risk Training Series. This suite of training has been designed by leading risk experts and supports an organisation-wide approach to managing risk. It provides a structured learning pathway, is jargon free and will equip individuals with career advancing skills including how to:

  • identify and manage all types of risks
  • be a confident communicator of risk
  • develop influencing skills to help shape a risk-savvy culture

In addition, a cash prize of £100 for the winner and your essay published in the IIRSM member magazine The Sentinel and shared widely via IIRSM’s social media channels.

You must be an IIRSM member to enter and IIRSM is offering free Student membership (subject to eligibility) or a 20% discount on other membership grades to new members who wish to enter. Visit the IIRSM website (www.iirsm.org) for more information and T&Cs.
