Changes in the UK Air Tightness Testing Industry

iATS and – the Independent Airtightness Testing Scheme and ATTMA – The Air Tightness Testing and Measurement Association will replace BINDT as CPS Scheme Operators from 31 December 2015. This sees the end after many years, of the British Institute of Non Destructive Testing’s (BINDT) involvement in Air Tightness Testing in the UK.
There has been a dwindling number of BINDT registered testers during 2015, and from 1 January 2016 there will be no BINDT registered testers, and BINDT Air Permeability Certificates will no longer be valid.
In place of BINDT, DCLG has approved the new two schemes to run Air Tightness Testing Competent Persons (CPS) Schemes in the UK through iATS and ATTMA.
Both schemes can register and assess testers to all three levels of testing, and both provide Air Permeability Certification to comply with s43 in England, and equivalent regulation elsewhere.
Among other changes, the new Conditions of Authorisation require the Schemes to undertake a higher standard of oversight of testers and their companies than previously.
