CIC 25th Anniversary Photography Competition winner announced

At the last month's 25th Anniversary Gala dinner, amateur photographer Joy Nightingale was announced the winner of the CIC 25th anniversary photography competition.

Joy's image, entitled 'Newcastle', was selected as the overall winner from the nine shortlisted images submitted within the following three categories:

1. The changing face of construction: building the past 25 years

2. Visualising the future: what will UK 2050 look like?

3. Diversity in construction: aspirations of a generation

On deciding upon the winner, competition judge and CIC Chairman Jack Pringle said “This photograph juxtaposes Foster and Partners new building with Newcastle's iconic railway bridge. The forms have a relationship and the subject shows the best of the old with the best of the new.”

Fellow judge, Stan Hornagold said: “This represents good architecture that had to fit in with an iconic structure in a proud city. The photograph is well executed with a first class composition, good depth of field throughout and able to deal with a wide range of contrasts in the light. It passes the simple test, which is 'I wish I was standing in that very spot.'

On hearing that she had won the competition, Joy Nightingale commented: “I am so thrilled that the Judges chose my photo to win this competition. When I was in Newcastle, I was very impressed by the diversity of buildings and construction around the city. Luckily for me, on the day of the photo there was the added bonus of plenty of sunshine and blue skies.”
