CIC launches two new technical apprenticeships

On 25th April 2013 CIC Chief Executive, Graham Watts, opened the launch of two new technical support apprenticeships in Town Planning and Building Control at London Councils this morning, to an enthusiastic audience of key public and private stakeholders, including employers, trainers, FE colleges, qualification providers and professional bodies.

CIC members have shown their commitment to improving access to the professions and diversity in the work place and these new apprenticeship pathways will provide another training route to help make this happen.

Employers increasingly require skilled technicians who can work within an integrated digital environment using technologies such as Geographic Information System (GIS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

With this in mind CIC members – Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), Association Building Engineers (ABE), National House-Building Council (NHBC) and Local Authority Building Control (LABC) – identified a need to develop the apprenticeship pathways as a means of addressing future skills needs and providing a pipeline of talent to the sector.

Apprenticeships provide an important means for employers to recruit and develop their staff. They help deliver a competent workforce by providing a nationally recognised qualification and a structured training and career pathway.
CIC will continue to work with stakeholders to deliver these apprenticeships to the sector in order to help it meet its future needs.
