CIC welcomes publication of the Industrial Strategy

Posted: 2nd July 2013

CIC today welcomes publication of the Government Industrial Strategy for Construction to 2025, launched this morning at the Government Construction Summit.

This is a joint government and industry strategy to ensure that the UK construction sector is in the best possible position to take advantage of the growth opportunities in the global construction market, which is forecast to grow by over 70%, by 2025.

As part of its Industrial Strategy policy, the Government is building long-term partnerships with sectors that can deliver significant growth. Britain has world-class expertise in construction and this document sets out clear and defined aspirations and a vision for long-term strategic action by government and industry, to promote the success of the sector.

CIC will be considering priority actions at a meeting of its Executive Board next week and believes Building Information Modelling (BIM), careers, skills and CPD will be high on the agenda. It looks forward to working with the Construction Leadership Council, the Strategic Forum, ConstructionSkills and others in implementing the actions recommended in the Strategy.

CIC is delighted that the chair of its 2050 Group, Louise Clarke, and CIC Chairman, Jack Pringle, will be sitting on the new Construction Leadership Council.

On publication of the Construction Industry Strategy, Jack Pringle said:
“At last, a construction industry strategy led by government in partnership with the industry. The most important part of this is the vision of a modern, attractive, digital, integrated industry that gives clients better, faster, cheaper and greener products – and the route map to achieve this.”

Graham Watts OBE, Chief Executive, CIC, welcomed the news stating:
“There has been a lot of excellent work done to improve the efficiency of construction in recent years. The Strategy is an excellent summary of where we are and what still needs to be done to meet the vision articulated by Latham, Egan, Morrell and others. We look forward to working with Peter Hansford, the Strategic Forum and the new Construction Leadership Council to maintain the momentum in driving the necessary actions along.”
