Education and training in the UK plumbing and heating industry
Posted: 18th March 2024
Following development that commenced in 2015, a new level 3 Apprenticeship standard for Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians was launched in 2018 as a part of the government's Trailblazer programme.
The Level 3 Apprenticeship Plumbing & Domestic Heating Technician is approximately a 4 year programme, including a mandatory fuel or renewables pathway and End-Point Assessment.
This programme has now had some time to establish itself and run through to a conclusion. As the apprenticeship is reviewed, we are seeking as many views as possible on the delivery of education and routes into careers in the plumbing industry.
As the industry adapts to its role in transitioning to a low-carbon economy, this includes consideration of issues around renewables, low-temperature systems and different fuels used. With this in mind, we are also seeking contributions regarding training of the existing plumbing and heating industry workforce and professional recognition through experienced worker schemes.
Please click here to have your say and help to represent the views of as many members of the plumbing and heating industry as possible in looking to shape its future.
