The Construction Industry Council (CIC) is the representative forum for the professional bodies, research organisations and specialist business associations in the construction industry.


In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, CIC introduced a free webinar series to offer guidance and clarity to its members and to the wider industry. Each webinar discusses the biggest issues facing the construction industry, with the opportunity to ask the experts questions.

The upcomming webinar line-up is as follows:

The first webinar, 'The impact of coronavirus on jobs in construction and the built environment' was held on 8 April.

It covered all aspects of paid employment in the construction industry during the age of the coronavirus, including the Job Retention Scheme, Furloughing and the Workforce Exchange Programme.  Speakers included Hannah Vickers, CEO of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (the author of the CLC Job Retention Guidance); Steve Corbett, Head of Client Solutions at Capita Resourcing, who is managing the Government’s Workforce Exchange Programme; together with experts from UHY Hacker Young and Beale & Co who gave a view from the accountancy and legal professions.

The second webinar, 'Support for self-employed and freelance workers in the age of COVID-19' was held on 15 April.

It was led by Charles Homan of UHY Hacker Young, giving advice on the generic support available for the self employed, and Brian Berry, the Chief Executive of the Federation of Master Builders. who outlined what the CLC has been doing and gave construction-specific advice.

The third webinar, 'Construction's Recovery from the Age of Coronavirus' was held on 23 April.

Alasdair Reisner CEO of the Civil Engineering Contractors’ Association and other invited speakers from UHY Hacker Young discussed what needs to be done to ease construction’s recovery from the current crisis.  Alasdair is a member of the BEIS/Construction Leadership Council Covid-19 Task Force and is leading the work on advising government and industry about recovery and turnaround.

The next webinar, 'Mental health and wellbeing in the age of Coronavirus' was held on 27 April.

Acclaimed construction coach, Maria Coulter BEM, chair of the CIC Diversity and Inclusion Panel, lead the webinar on the vital topic of mental health and wellbeing. There was valuable input from psychotherapist Teddy Hyde.
