Duke of Gloucester Young Achievers Awards 2013

Posted: 14th March 2013

CIC congratulates the winners of the Duke of Gloucester Young Achievers Awards 2013.

Women triumphed at construction’s young professionals’ awards night. Despite making up only 9% of the construction industry workforce, women dominated the celebrations at The Duke of Gloucester’s Young Achievers Scheme last night.

Three out of the four winners who were recognised as being exceptional young professionals and had gone the extra mile in their career so far, were female.

The shortlisted candidates joined over 200 senior industry figures and HRH The Duke of Gloucester at the awards evening last night at RIBA, where the winners were announced.

The awards had 4 categories, Architecture, Engineering, Engineering, Surveying and Project Management. There were female winners in three of the categories, and the overall winner was female too.

Winners each receive a unique package of support through the Trust and development opportunities through a one year mentoring programme to enable them to make an even greater impact in their future careers.

The winners:

  • Architecture: Apeksha Gupta – BRE Wales & South West, Renewable Energy KTP Associate
  • Engineering: Stacey Clifford – Kier, Graduate Engineer
  • Project Management: Paul Ebbs – Barratt David Wilson, Site Manager
  • Surveying: Stacey Kirkham – Interserve Construction, Quantity Surveyor
  • Overall Winner: Stacey Clifford – Kier, Graduate Engineer

The highly commended finalists:

  • Architecture: Angeletia Clarke, Part III student
  • Engineering: Jenny Durie – Atkins
  • Project Management: Kevin Gosney – Lend Lease
  • Surveying: Laura Firth – Healy Kelly Turner & Townsend

Now in its second year, the Scheme, with the support of the Trust’s Patron, HRH The Duke of Gloucester, has been an opportunity for exceptional young professionals to be commended and celebrated for their achievements. It particularly looked for young people who have overcome barriers to get to where they are, and judges read applications from young people who had shown exceptional resilience and determination.

Construction Youth Trust Director, Christine Townley commented:
We are delighted with the success of our awards scheme which has showcased again the exceptional young talent in construction today. Each of the winners has shown solid professionalism and determination to succeed in their chosen career. I am particularly delighted to see so many women triumph and it is really heartening to see that young women are seeing the potential in construction as a career.
