Former CIC Chair receives CBE

The Construction Industry Council congratulates former chair, Professor John Nolan, on being awarded a CBE by Princess Anne at an Investiture Ceremony which took place at the end of last year.

John was awarded a CBE in the 2019 New Year Honours' List but the Investiture had been delayed due to Covid-19. John was award the CBE for for services to structural engineering and the construction industry.

John was chair if CIC from 2016 - 2019 and is still involved with CIC as the chair of our Building Safety Committee, which comprises CIC Members’ experts to advise on all issues relating to the fire and on the independent government-led and industry-led responses.

John has over 48 years’ experience in the construction industry initially working as a contractors’ engineer and then as a consulting engineer. He is one of the founders and chairman of a property development company Nolan Assiates based in Birmingham.

John is also a visiting Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Birmingham University and was past chair of the Institution of Structural Engineers 2012 and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
