Posted: 15th May 2015
On 15th May 2015, the Peter Stone Award was presented to Andrew Wolstenholme OBE following the Chartered Association of Building Engineers’ Presidential Inauguration of David Kitcatt.
Andrew has undertaken a challenging portfolio of work which has significantly contributed towards the advancement of building engineering. In doing so, he clearly demonstrated the qualities required of the Peter Stone Award and has throughout his career been involved with an extensive range of building and engineering projects at the highest level.
David presented Andrew Wolstenholme with the Award in the form of an engraved silver salver and certificate. The family of Peter Stone were also present on the day to acknowledge the giving of the award.
Andrew Wolstenholme OBE was delighted and honoured to receive the Peter Stone Award. In his acceptance speech Andrew spoke in depth about the complex projects and engineering challenges he is involved with at Crossrail. One such area is creating a safe and suitable network of tunnels for Crossrail trains to pass through. 42 kilometres of tunnel is being created by eight tunnel boring machines, one of which is named after Augusta Ada Byron, Countess of Lovelace, from whom the Earl of Lytton, Patron of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, is a descendent.
Andrew then went on to emphasise the key challenges of attracting and developing fresh talent into the Built Environment. He echoed elements from David Kitcatt’s first speech as the President of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and stood firmly by the notion that more needs to be done to encourage young people into the profession.
