Posted: 6th March 2010

Following the publication of the CIC and ConstructionSkills report in January 2010 entitled Building the Future: How Women Professionals Can Make a Difference, CIC ran a half day event on Thursday 4th March 2010 to formally launch the report with some 50 attendees.

The event compromised of talks by Judith Cherry, Research and Insight Manager at Opportunity Now and Louise Brooke-Smith, Director, of CSJ Brooke Smith Associates whose firm was one of the case studies in the report.

Judith Cherry’s presentation highlighted the findings in the report and how to put these into practice while Louise Brooke-Smith focused on her career within the Built Environment Industry and how she her firm try to retain women.

After the presentations Mark Way, Director of Skills at CIC joined Judith and Louise for a panel debate chaired by CIC, Chief Executive Graham Watts. After an active panel debate taking a number of questions from attendees the event moved onto a short workshop session. The groups were posed a series of questions and asked to discuss and feedback answers to the rest of the attendees before the close of the event.
Feedback from the event has been positive and plans are in place to engage with attendees to discuss the important issues raised in the feedback sessions to find way by which further progression can be made.
