New Chairman for the Construction Industry Council

At its Council meeting on Tuesday 10 June Keith Clarke was appointed as the new Chairman of the Construction Industry Council. The Rt Hon Nick Raynsford MP, CIC’s former Chairman, now becomes Deputy Chairman in accordance with CIC’s rules & byelaws.

Keith Clarke is chief executive of Atkins, the UK’s largest engineering consultancy and second largest architecture practice. Keith, a Chartered Architect with more than 30 years’ experience in construction and engineering, joined Atkins from Skanska AB, where he was Executive Vice President responsible for its activities in the UK, Poland, Czech Republic, India and China. He previously worked for the City of New York for 10 years in an economic development role, as well as Olympia and York, Trafalgar House and Kvaerner.
Keith is an Advisory Board Member at Imperial College, a member of the Supporters at Large Group for Open House and Patron of the Environmental Industries Commission. He has resigned as Chair of the National Platform’s High Level Steering Group for Constructing Excellence to take up his new role, and has passed on his position as Chair of the CIC’s Health & Safety Committee, which he undertook for two years.
Taking up his new role, he said:

“Climate change, coupled with ever increasing urbanisation, population growth and scarcity of resources, moves the roles of the professional bodies to the core of the debate. This is an incredibly challenging and exciting time for the sector.”
