Team CIC completes the Skyline Challenge 2015
Posted: 26th October 2015
On 27th September 2015 team CIC (Rosanna Bortoli, Alex MacLaren, Laura Russell, Neil Thompson) raced against the clock and climbed the 37 floors of the Heron Tower, one of London’s most iconic buildings (standing at 755ft tall), using just the staircase to raise money for Construction Youth Trust (CYT).
The overall winning time on the day was circa five minutes from bottom to top. Team CIC didn’t match these exacting standards but put in a respectable showing with all four arriving safely, if breathlessly, at the top of the tower, between 7 and 10 minutes after their respective start times. Everyone did exceedingly well, given little or no preparatory training! The order of arrival at the finish line for team CIC was Neil in heroic first place at around 7 minutes, closely followed a minute later by Alex, (who owned up to running up and down the stairs at home as her pre-challenge training!), then Laura, who came down with the mother of all colds just days before the event, in third place, and fourth was Rosanna, who in her defence claimed the title of ‘oldest contender’!
All four were delighted to raise money for CYT who support young people whose journey to work may be challenging due to barriers such as financial circumstances, lack of awareness of opportunities, low self-esteem, gender or ethnicity.
However, team CIC needs more donations to reach its target for this marvellous charity, so do please keep giving here
