The briefings take place online six times a year and run from 9.30am – 11.30am.

What did we see in 2024?

This year saw the CIC Economic and Policy Briefings deliver a number of topics from people that are leaders in their respective fields which included:

  • Patrick Hayes, Technical Director at IstructE, speaking on Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in February
  • Andrew Carpenter, Chief Executive of the Structural Timber Association, speaking on the use of Timber in Construction in April
  • Dr Caroline Sudworth, Director of STEM Explored, discussing the importance of Apprenticeships and ensuring their success into the Built Environment?

In previous years, the briefings have included presentations on national projects such as Crossrail, HS2, and Thames Tideway. In addition to policy updates on Approved Document O, the Building Safety Alliance and Sustainable Drainage Systems. Alongside this, we also have accomplished economists speak on the current economic climate in construction such as Simon Rubinsohn, Chief Economist at RICS and Noble Francis, Economics Director at the Construction Products Association
