Activities of CIC and members at COP26

CIC will be at COP26 on 11 November to present on ‘Carbon Zero: the professional institutions’ climate action plan’. The presentation is in support of the Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero session Construction: The Built Environment’ from 09:30 - 11:00, in the Cinema Auditorium. It will take place in the Green Zone as part of the COP26 Cities, Regions and Built Environment Day. Stephen Hodder MBE, Chair of the CIC Climate Change Committee, will be presenting on behalf of CIC
RIBA is a delivery partner on the UKGBC’s virtual pavilion – Build Better Now – and will be involved in events on empowering young people to become climate-aware, designing a green and resilient built environment, and planning for transport and connectivity. On 2 November from 9:30 to 11:00 RIBA Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Andrew Forth, will be among those speaking in the Blue Zone, and will be presenting the Built for the Environment report. Following this, Mina Hasman will be hosting the Skills for Green Construction Recovery event, also in the Blue Zone from 11.30 to 12.30.
CIAT is also part of the UKGBC Virtual Pavilion and will be providing panel speakers for the events on Empowering young people to become the climate -aware built environment professionals of the future: What do we need to do now? (08:00 – 09:00 on 5 November) and Designing a green and resilient built environment – what do we need to do now and in the future? (09:00 – 10:00 on 10 November). CIAT Chief Executive Francesca Berriman is attending COP26 as a Board Member of the Society for the Environment.

In addition to the virtual pavilion, UKGBC will be launching their Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap at COP26 on 11th Nov at 11:30 – 12:30 in the Blue Zone.
RIBA International will be taking an in-depth look at five case studies from this year’s RIBA International Awards for Excellence winners to discuss the different approaches and solutions to tackling the climate crisis. The event will be 12:00 - 13:00 on 11 November at 66 Portland Place. You can attend in-person in London or online.
IStructE will be hosting a public discussion on 11 November from 18:30 – 20:00. You can attend in Glasgow or sign-up online. There will also be a technical CPD seminar on Friday 12 November with information available at www.istructe.org.
The RICS World Built Environment Forum is doing a series of webinars for COP26 and will be setting up a COP26 Resource Hub.
The Landscape Institute will be updating their COP26 campaign page with events, resources and blogs. They are dedicating their annual Jellicoe lecture on 2 November to discussing the biodiversity emergency and how the landscape sector can respond to redressing the balance.
CIC Champion for Flood Mitigation and Resilience and past president of the Landscape Institute, Sue Illman, will be participating in the Design Council’s ‘Design for Planet’ event on 9 and 10 November which runs alongside COP 26 at the V&A in Dundee.
The Royal Town Planning Institute are organising an event at COP26 in partnership with the Global Planners Network, Commonwealth Association of Planners and the International Society of City and Regional Planners on 8th November, available to attend in person and online.
