CIC Inclusive Environment Award 2017 opens for entries
Posted: 13th March 2017
CIC has opened entries for the second CIC Inclusive Environment Award 2017, in recognition of buildings, places and spaces which demonstrate best practice in achieving an inclusive environment - an environment which is safe, flexible and accessible for all.
The Award is an “award of awards” celebrating exemplar schemes and projects previously recognised by a CIC member. This year’s award was officially launched on 9 March 2017 at an evening reception with the Minister for Disabled People, Penny Mordaunt MP. The Reception was held at last year’s award winner, 5 Pancras Square, London Borough of Camden which was nominated by LABC.
Judges for the award include; Eoin Burns - Willmott Dixon, Tony Burton - Gardiner & Theobald, Clare Devine - CABE Design Council, Mark Dyer - High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd, Julie Fleck - CIC BEPE Project Lead, Mathew Freeman - HLM Architects, John Nolan - Nolan Associates, Rachel Smalley - Access Association and Danna Walker - Built By Us.
This years Award has been kindly sponsored by Gardiner & Theobald - Tony Burton, Partner said of sponsoring the award; “G&T is delighted to sponsor this award in 2017 which recognises excellence in accessible and inclusive design. By encouraging those who design, construct and manage buildings, places and spaces to make their developments and property assets open for all to enjoy we will see our built environment change for the better in the years to come.”
Paul Everall, Chief Executive of LABC who nominated last year’s winning award said – “When the Government launched its new initiative three years ago to promote inclusivity in buildings, all CIC members were asked to consider what they might do to help. As LABC already ran very successful regional and national awards, we decided to add a new category, Best Inclusive Building, in 2015. We were delighted when the CIC launched its inaugural Inclusive Environments Award last year – and even more delighted when our 2015 winner, 5 Pancras Square, also won the CIC Award. We shall, of course, be entering our 2016 winner this time.”
Shortlisted entries will be announced in September and the award will be presented at a reception following CIC’s Council Meeting on 25th October 2017.
