Construct Zero continued growth

Posted: 3rd March 2022

Launched in March 2021, CO2nstruct Zero brings together organisations that are demonstrating leadership in relation to carbon reduction, sharing their good practice with others from across the UK construction sector, and providing a set of metrics that enables the sector, quarterly, to collectively measure its progress to Net Zero.

Since its launch more than 70 Business Champions have committed to targeted carbon reduction, and to provide details of how they are achieving this to help those from across the wider sector.

Today’s announcement marks CO2nstructZero’s continued growth.

The latest companies to become Business Champions are:

  • Gripple
  • Kier
  • McAleer & Rushe
  • Vertec Ltd

Andrew Davies, Kier’s CEO said: “Kier is delighted to become a CO2nstructZero Business Champion. In 2020, we launched our sustainability framework, Building for a Sustainable World, and in 2021, our pathway to net zero that sets out our carbon reduction plan. The 9 priority areas that form part of the CO2nstructZero programme align with our commitments to become net zero in our own business operations by 2039 and across our value chain by 2045. We are also committed to supporting our clients to achieve their own net zero targets and to working collectively with our supply chain and industry colleagues to drive forward progress."

Dan Seymour, (Technical Director) of Vertec said: “We are very excited to be a Business Champion as part of the CO2nstructZero movement and are looking forward to be able to share and collaborate with other construction companies to reduce our carbon emissions and effects on the natural environment.

CLC co-chair Andy Mitchell CBE said: “It is very encouraging to see the continued growth of companies pledging to become Business Champions and Partners. However, we must not rest on our laurels. If you have not yet joined CO2nstructZero and are on the Net Zero journey, I would encourage you to reach out to the CO2nstructZero team, who are working intensively with industry and Government to lead the sector’s charge to Net Zero.
