Graham Watts awarded BIID Honorary Fellowship

Graham Watts OBE, Chief Executive of the Construction Industry Council has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) in recognition of his profound impact on the development and success of the interior design profession.

Mr. Watts’ was awarded his Fellowship at BIID’s “Celebrating British Design” Conference held immediately prior to the Institute’s annual general meeting (AGM) at RIBA’s London HQ, alongside the fashion designers Sir Paul Smith and Zandra Rhodes; the internationally acclaimed photographer, Andreas von Einsiedel; and the Rector of the Royal College of Arts, Dr Paul Thompson.

Graham Watts has been Chief Executive of the Construction Industry Council since 1991. He is a member of the Strategic Forum for Construction and its Executive Committee and Olympic Task Force and a Visiting Professor at the University of Northumbria. Graham is also an Honorary Fellow of the RIBA, CIBSE, the ABE, ICWCI and the Faculty of Building and an Honorary Member of the RICS and CIAT. He was awarded the President’s Medal of the CIOB in 2000 and the Peter Stone Award of the ABE in 1996. Graham also received an OBE in the New Years Honours in 2008 for his services to the construction industry.

In receiving his award Graham said “It has been a great privilege to work alongside the BIID in recent years and I am a great admirer of the vitality and enthusiasm of its leadership. Since I am spectacularly unqualified to be considered for any role in interior design, the award will be cherished all the more” !
