HS2 signs up to support Construct Zero

The organisation delivering the UK’s largest infrastructure project has signed up to support the Construction Leadership Council’s carbon reduction campaign.
HS2 Limited has confirmed that it will become a CO2nstruct Zero Business Partner, joining more than 80 organisations from across the sector who have committed to share good practice about how they are reducing carbon.
HS2 has already developed its own Net Zero Carbon Plan with new targets and commitments to make the project net zero carbon from 2035. Through this programme it is driving industry change, as the first transport organisation to secure PAS 2080 accreditation and with its requirement for a 50 per cent reduction in carbon from its contractors.
Now it is bringing this expertise to CO2nstruct Zero. It has already been selected to lead one of the campaign’s major interventions this year, developing a roadmap to move towards zero diesel construction sites.
HS2 Head of Environmental Sciences Neil Wait said: “As we design and build HS2, we’re working with our supply chain, industry groups and research organisations to implement low carbon materials, alternative fuels, renewable energy and new construction methods to reduce the carbon footprint of the programme and support the decarbonisation of the UK construction sector.”
CLC Co-chair Andy Mitchell said: “Ultimately CO2nstruct Zero is about a sector deciding that it wants to change its performance on carbon, and agreeing to work together to do so. We can do this most effectively when we have strong leadership from across the sector. I am delighted that HS2 Ltd is showing this leadership by signing up as a CO2nstruct Zero Business Partner."
