2050 Group makes an impact at the ACE Annual Conference

On the 25th May 2011, Hannah Collie, 2050 Group Coordinator, was asked to represent the Group, on a debate panel discussion about Low Carbon Construction, at ACE’s Annual Conference.
The Conference, titled ‘Getting Back to Business’, discussed the low-carbon development to project finance, localism to international markets, mergers and acquisitions to planning law. The aim of the conference was to address the key issues of growing a sustainable, dynamic industry for the future.
Hannah was asked to participate in the session called ‘Think Tank – Low Carbon Construction’, where she was a panellist alongside alongside Paul Morrell, Chief Construction Adviser, Bill Bordass, Usable Buildings Trust, and Alex Tosetti, URS. She gave a 10 minute speech about how the Group had been established, the work completed to feed into the IGT Low Carbon Construction Final Report and what the Group are planning for the future. This was a fantastic opportunity for the Group as it was the first public opportunity to raise the Group’s profile since CIC agreeing to continue the Group back in February this year.
Paul Morrell reported on what has been done since the launch of the IGT report last November. He stressed “there was a ticking time bomb in climate change. The government planned to cut carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050, but as yet did not know how that could be done.”
As the Group’s focus is on 2020 – 2050, the Group feel ideally placed to inform people of their findings and what might happen if we don’t act now. ACE thanked CIC and the 2050 Group for attending the conference and their Chief Executive, Nelson Ogunshakin OBE, stated “he looked forward to ACE’s continued support of the 2050 Group initiative.”
