Posted: 23rd October 2019

The Sir Ian Dixon Scholarship was established in 1997 by Sir Ian Dixon, a former President of the Chartered Institute of Building. The Scholarship is now jointly funded by the Sir Ian Dixon Legacy, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Worshipful Company of Constructors.

The primary objective of the Scholarship is to enable companies to develop the
potential of their staff through an open research programme and applications are now invited for the 2020 Sir Ian Dixon Scholarship. The scope of the Scholarship
is deliberately wide with the intention of promoting a research programme that will provide development benefits for the Scholars, their employers and potentially
the wider industry.

Previous Sir Ian Dixon Scholarship research programmes have addressed such
diverse topic areas as:

  • How effective are contract clauses in securing sustainable outcomes?
  • The pursuit of Innovation in construction
  • The use of additive manufacturing in construction
  • The UK’s Forgotten Youth – training and employment opportunities in construction
  • Eliminating disputes in supply chains
  • Industrialisation in construction – a leading differentiator?

Applications should be sent to the Worshipful Company of Constructors
( with a copy of the applicant’s CV, a brief report (approx. 500 words) expressing why they wish to become a Scholar
and their proposed research topic. If successful at this stage, the candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview and to give a 10-15 minute PowerPoint
presentation to a small panel of representatives from the CIOB and the Worshipful Company of Constructors, followed by questions and answers.

Closing date: 29 November 2019

Successful applicants will receive an award of £3000.00 together with support and
mentoring from experts. They will also be invited to attend The Worshipful Company of Constructors Awards Dinner being held on 12 February 2020. At the
end of the 12-month scholarship period the Scholar will present their findings and produce a report or other suitable output to detail the work completed.
