CABE Publishes Results of the 2025 Building Control Survey
Posted: 24th April 2025
To gather the perspectives of CABE members and professionals working within building control, CABE went out to its members and professionals and asked for their views on the building control system in England and Wales.
The survey’s questions focused on the changes to the building inspector profession and looked at how well the industry understood those changes.
With the survey now in its third year, the feedback has allowed us to take a wider look at the trends and understand the building control sector from those working within it.
Some keys findings from the survey:
- 41% of those who completed this year’s survey were registered building inspectors (RBIs) at Class 3 or 4, and 50% at Class 2
- resourcing has consistently been a concern over the years, and this year was no different. 63% of respondents believe that resourcing (including people) available to undertake building control has declined significantly in the last three years
- there are still challenges within the sector, with 83% of respondents feeling that the industry does not understand the new role of the RBI.
- there remains a lack of confidence (from RBIs) on how well consultants and clients understand the changes to their responsibilities as introduced in the Building Safety Act 2022; and
- it is imperative that professionals undertake regular CPD and consistently the survey has shown that employers are committed to supporting their employees engage with professional development activities and training.
CABE plays a part in helping members to understand how to comply with the Building Safety Act 2022 and its corresponding legislation; we will continue to strive to find ways to make it easier for professionals to understand their responsibilities and to prove that they are competent to undertake their roles.
