CIC Announces E4BE Merger
Posted: 24th March 2017
CIC is pleased to announce the amalgamation of the CIC Education for the Built Environment Committee (E4BE) and the 14 to 19 Advisory Committee for Construction and the Built Environment Education. The new committee is to be known as the Construction and Built Environment Education Advisory Committee.
Chaired by Roy Cavanagh MBE (Seddon Construction), the newly merged committee includes membership drawn from a range of organisations representing the breadth of the construction and built environment education. These organisations include employers, professional bodies, universities, further education and schools. Roy said “I am delighted that E4BE is joining the Advisory Committee to help create a single voice for the sector on education issues and policy. I am looking forward to leading the work of the new committee to address the important challenges that lie ahead”.
The committee is focused on providing a public voice for those with a legitimate interest in construction and the built environment education. Its role is to help shape construction & the built environment education, to help widen access to a more diverse pool of talent, to promote best practice in the delivery of education including in relation to work related education and to develop and maintain education standards and encourage the delivery of suitable qualifications based on them.
Gary Strong Director of Practice Standards & Technical Guidance, RICS commented “RICS support the merging of the CIC E4BE group with the 14-19 CBE committee in the interests of efficiency and cross industry collaboration. As one of the largest professional bodies in the UK in land, property & construction, we seek the coming together of all stakeholders in the construction sector to really make a difference to the skills, education, training and experience needed in the 21st century.”
“It makes sense to pull these two committees together to improve our effectiveness, reduce duplication and most importantly make sure the big issues in education and training don’t slip between the cracks. The industry needs strong voices as we talk with Government and combining these resources together will turn up the volume, particularly on critical issues such as Technical Levels and Degree Apprenticeships” said Bridget Bartlett , Deputy Chief Executive , CIOB
Andrew Stanley Head of Education Policy at ICE also commented “ICE welcomes the merger of the CIC Education for the Built Environment Committee (E4BE) and the 14 to 19 Advisory Committee for Construction and the Built Environment Education. Construction faces a period of significant change with the apprenticeship levy, new technical qualifications and a challenging environment for recruitment of the construction workforce at all levels. The merged body will be well-placed to join up all stakeholders.”
