CIC awards Honorary Affiliate Memberships
Posted: 9th August 2018
CIC is delighted to announce the award of Honorary Affiliate Membership to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and four prominent industry figures.
CIC Honorary Affiliate Membership is presented to individuals and organisations that CIC wishes to recognise for their services to the built environment professions and construction industry.
Following CIC’s priority to promote Inclusive Environments we are delighted to now strengthen that activity through our relationship with the RNIB, which joins the Access Association as an Honorary Affiliate Member. The CIC is especially keen to assist the RNIB with the Eyeware project, a smartphone app designed to help people see through the eyes of someone with a variety of visual impairments. It is hoped this or something similar could help within the design process of buildings and places by designing out anything that isn’t truly inclusive.
CIC also awarded a number of Honorary Affiliate Memberships to industry individuals:
Peter Hansford, a civil engineer and former president of the ICE and former Chief Construction Adviser to Government;
Dr John Hooper, former Chief Executive of CABE who retired this year and saw the Association achieve chartered status;
Paul Morrell OBE, a quantity surveyor who became the Government’s first Chief Construction Adviser and a strong advocate for collaborative working in the industry;
Jean Venables CBE, a civil engineer, the first female president of the ICE and, until recently, chair of Constructionarium.
CIC Chief Executive Graham Watts OBE says of the appointments: “I have had the privilege of working directly with each of these individuals – each of whom has provided huge service to the industry - and with pioneering staff from the RNIB and it a great pleasure now to welcome such a significant group into CIC’s Honorary Affiliate Membership programme. I am very proud of CIC’s commitment to inclusive and accessible environments and it will be powerful to have the RNIB’s expertise working alongside us as we try to make Britain’s built environment more inclusive and accessible.”
