CIC responds to consultation on banning combustible cladding

CIC in consultation with our 36 member bodies and 12 associates has responded to the consultation on banning combustible cladding which was announced by the Housing Secretary, Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP in June this year.
This consultation invited views on the Government's proposals to revise the building regulations to ban the use of combustible materials in the inner leaf, insulation and cladding that are used in external wall systems on these buildings.
In essence CIC agree with a ban on combustible materials in cladding systems with some exemptions which we detailed in our response. Such a ban should be subject to a further review as findings emerge in the Grenfell Tower Public Inquiry; the responses to Building a Safer Future (The Hackitt Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety); and new testing regimes that will develop over time.
