Constructionarium Welcomes Leaders to Celebrate Student Success

Posted: 18th March 2025

Last week was a busy and exciting one at Constructionarium, as we marked the successful completion of the Millau Cable Bridge project by students from Texas A&M University - finishing ahead of schedule on Thursday. This was the first event held in 2025 for Constructionarium as they reopen their unique learning facility for the year.

On Friday morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming Cllr Paul Bland, Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council, to see first-hand the impressive work achieved by the students. He commented on “the exceptional build quality and camaraderie of the students during the week”. A little later that day, James Wild MP and Tim Balcon, CEO of CITB, joined us to celebrate the students' achievements and witness their outstanding teamwork in action.

During this busy morning, our Chief Executive, Julia Stevens, and Tim Balcon also managed to squeeze in a live interview on BBC Radio Norfolk, to discuss the skills challenge in the East of England further highlighting the importance of hands-on learning in the construction industry and the need to deliver good quality training across the wide remit of the built environment sector.

The visit also provided a valuable opportunity to continue to discuss skills development, funding, and future collaborations, reinforcing Constructionarium’s commitment to providing hands-on experiential learning that equips students with the technical, personal, and employability skills needed for careers in the built environment.

James Wild MP commented “I am always delighted to visit Constructionarium, a hidden gem on our doorstop in North Norfolk. The challenging nature of the training provided is clear to see along with the enjoyment of the students that are undertaking the courses. It is amazing to see these structures completed in one week.”

Tim Balcon said “CITB are keen supporters of the work Constructionarium delivers at Bircham Newton. We are looking at ways that we can develop closer relationships for the future.”

Julia Stevens, Chief Exec of Constructionarium, said: "We are always delighted to showcase the incredible work our students achieve in such a short space of time. Having the continued support and engagement of the Mayor, Cllr Paul Bland, James Wild MP and Tim Balcon helps highlight the importance of our unique practical learning in shaping the next generation of construction professionals."

Constructionarium continues to attract over 1,000 students and professionals each year to its unique training facility at Bircham Newton, where participants gain real-world experience by constructing scaled-down replicas of major engineering projects from around the world.
