NBS Sustainable Futures survey 2024

Posted: 4th March 2024

NBS, working with RIBA and Glenigan, has launched its 2024 survey about sustainability. We have carried out a number of surveys about this important subject over the past decade, with the most recent being in 2021/2.

Climate change is a global issue, with the built environment and construction sector having a major role to play – in 2022 it accounted for 34% of energy demand and 37% of CO2 emissions. Our past research has shown that many in the industry recognize this and aim to create sustainable buildings and infrastructure. But what actual progress have we made as an industry since our last Sustainable Futures report in 2022? What are the barriers to this progress and what are the enablers? This is a chance to share your experience and views.

The Sustainable Futures survey is open to all those working in construction and the built environment – clients, consultants, specifiers, designers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and others. It takes about 10 minutes or so and for every completed response we receive, we'll plant a tree through Carma (up to a maximum of 500 trees). Those completing the survey will:

  • Get first access to the final report
  • Help us plant up to 500 trees
  • Assist us in evaluating whether the industry has become more sustainable since 2022
  • Inform NBS' development of tools to help people work sustainably

We treat all responses in confidence. We comply with the Market Research Society (MRS) Code of Conduct and data protection legislation. More on this in the NBS Privacy Policy and Privacy Information Notice, and Glenigan Privacy Policy.

The survey will close at the end of March 2024 and can be accessed here.
