New Apprenticeship Pathways

CIC has led the development work on two new apprenticeship pathways in partnership with RTPI, Planning Officers Society, ABE, NHBC and LABC. As part of our Constructionskills remit we have been able to respond to the skills needs of the professional community.
Apprenticeships are work based training qualifications and are available for new and existing employees of all ages. They provide a means for employers to grow their own talent by providing a subsidised training route. They also improve staff retention and productivity by a providing a distinct career development route The Building Control Technical Support apprenticeship is for people who provide technical support on projects covering assessment of building regulations and inspection of compliance on site.
The Level 3 Building Control apprenticeship framework includes the following qualifications :
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Building Control Technical Support
- Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment *
- Functional Skills (English Level 2 and Maths Level 2) or Essential Skills (Wales) *
- Employability skills
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills The Town Planning Technical Support apprenticeship is for people working in a technical or administrative support role and can lead to technical membership of the RTPI.
The Level 3 Town Planning Technical Support Apprenticeship framework includes the following qualifications:
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Town Planning Technical Support
- Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Town Planning Technical Support
- Functional Skills (English Level 2 and Maths Level 2) or Essential Skills (Wales)
- Personal Learning and thinking skills
Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Grants towards the cost of training an apprenticeship are available for 16-24 year olds from the National Apprenticeship Service. Employers receive 100% of the training costs for 16-18 year olds and 50% for 19-24 year olds. The National Apprenticeship Service offers guidance and support in finding a college that provides the qualifications and on how to start employing apprentices.
